Greg Wikler is a managing director in the Energy practice. He engages in demand response (DR), energy efficiency (EE), and Smart Grid market development efforts at various levels for utilities, state commissions, and regional transmission operators — both nationally and internationally. In his more than 25 years of experience in this field, Greg has conducted national, regional, and utility-specific DR and EE potential assessments. He has been involved in cutting-edge assessments of emerging technologies and programs related to DR. He has led industry collaborations on DR and EE program design and process reforms, and he has engaged with policymakers and researchers on the need to develop comprehensive frameworks for measuring the savings associated with non-equipment EE measures such as operational efficiency and strategic energy management programs.
Greg's project work includes:
Conducting national, regional, and utility-specific assessments of DR and EE market potentials, program designs and evaluation studies
Cutting-edge assessments of emerging technologies and programs related to DR, including the development of the industry’s first generation of Auto-DR programs in California
Working with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, his efforts led to the establishment of the open communication standards for DR, which are now being detailed through the OpenADR Alliance
A number of recent projects to assess and demonstrate the extent to which fast DR resources can be used for integration with intermittent renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar
His international experience includes DR and EE assignments in South Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, and Saudi Arabia, and augments Navigant's Energy practice's ability to serve energy clients both in North America and across the globe.
Greg actively serves the industry through several leadership positions.
