Areas of Expertise

Rachel Sazanowicz is an associate director in the Global Investigations and Compliance practice. She has experience in model validation, compliance program reviews, cross-border tax evasion investigation, fraud investigation, and monitorships. Rachel is currently co-coordinating the machine intelligence strategic initiative for the Global Investigations and Compliance practice.

Rachel has assisted in multiple investigations, compliance program reviews including gap analyses and policy/procedure reviews, expert witness engagements, and model validations. Currently, Rachel is on a team supporting the Monitor of a large manufacturing company who is engaged to evaluate the company’s compliance program.

Rachel has conducted compliance programs reviews including governance and policy/procedure reviews for multiple companies and financial institutions. These reviews were conducted in preparation of civil and criminal proceedings, as part of an internal investigation, as well as for BAU purposes. She has participated in five mortgage fraud investigations where she researched allegations of mortgage fraud including borrower income misrepresentation and non-disclosure of mortgage debt. Rachel contributed to the expert witness reports prepared for litigation involving major lenders and insurers.

Rachel recently assisted with a model validation for the NY branch of a large European bank. She helped to lead a team that conducted a model validation of the bank’s Anti-Money Laundering Transaction Monitoring Mantas Model, and a tool validation of its sanctions screening tools, Fircosoft, as well as a proprietary name screening tool, pursuant to the NYS Department of Financial Services Part 504 Banking Division Transaction Monitoring and Filtering Program Requirements and Certifications and in accordance with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve’s Supervisory Guidance on Model Risk Management.

Additional engagements Rachel has been involved in are a focus on criminal tax issues, including a two-year internal investigation of a Caribbean bank. She was also a member of an independent examiner team hired pursuant to the Program for Non-Prosecution Agreements for Swiss Banks. As a member of the team, Rachel assisted the independent examiner with the investigation and final report submitted to the Department of Justice for three “Category 2” Swiss Banks and one “Category 3” Swiss Bank. Recently, Rachel assisted in the preparation of an expert witness report for a merger-related litigation dispute that involved potential FCPA violations. This matter required an in-depth damage calculation using large amounts of FCPA-related historical data.
