Hugh Porter is a Director in Navigant’s Global Construction Practice and a chartered civil engineer. With more than 25 years’ experience in the construction services industry, Hugh brings a mix of skills from operational, project management, business development and executive roles, which enables him to have a full appreciation of all aspects of the energy industry, built environment, and the needs, in particular related to green energy, of both private and public sector clients.

Selected engagement experiences include leading teams assisting in the provision of:

  • Commercial, financial and management capability and performance review of a steel fabrication company with comments and recommendations for improving productivity and long-term profitability
  • Financial model advisory services to a local authority for compliance and viability testing on long-term housing regeneration programme
  • Sector knowledge and insight to a number of international companies wishing to invest in UK infrastructure assets
  • Strategic positioning advice to a UK contracting company wishing to access market sectors with growth prospects
  • Specific tender support, advice and challenge to enable a number of leading UK contracting companies to secure long-term framework contracts in the utilities and transportation sectors
  • Strategic and sector advice to leading UK contracting company for a number of long-term asset management framework opportunities for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation

More broadly, Hugh has economic infrastructure experience related to feasibility studies, bidding, and procurement of construction and services for:

  • Power stations - hydro-power in UK, Germany, Switzerland, USA and Egypt; tidal power studies Mersey, Severn and La Rance
  • Regulated utilities frameworks - water, gas and electricity
  • Business development into Nuclear, on and offshore wind energy programmes
  • National Grid electrical transmission tunnels and other regulated asset owner frameworks in water, gas and electricity
  • UK Defence asset and facilities management (£1.5bn)
  • Motorways highways and structures - M40 Banbury, M6 J20-21a near Warrington
  • Rail systems - Jubilee Line Extension (2 stations), London Underground track renewals, Channel Tunnel Rail Link Phase 2 (£130m)
