Kristina Kahan is a Director in the Healthcare and Life Sciences Disputes, Regulatory, Compliance, and Investigations (HLS DRCI) practice. She leads a team of nurses and coders who specialize in providing coding, compliance, investigative, clinical, operational, and industry expertise and assistance to payers and providers. She is a Registered Nurse and a Certified Professional Coder with specialty coding certification in Interventional Radiology and Cardiology services.
Kristina has served clients and their counsel in a wide range of engagements including: Compliance Advisory services, investigations, self-disclosures, and expert testimony. Specific client experience includes review of hospital and physician coding compliance, physician Evaluation and Management (E/M) coding, clinic facility coding, billing and documentation, one day stay reviews with a focus on InterQual or Milliman criteria and inpatient medical necessity, oncology services, infusion therapy coding and documentation, correct documentation and billing for medications (including HCPCS coding and drug waste), charge master management, radiation oncology coding, psychiatric service coding and documentation, and client project management, with an emphasis on health care compliance and coding services.
Kristina has significant experience assisting clients with specific compliance and coding issues for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), internal cardiac defibrillator (ICD) investigation support, carotid artery stents, kyphoplasty surgical procedures, Emergency Department facility level development and charge capture process development.
Kristina has served as an expert in various matters relating to medical coding and billing, intra-operative neurological monitoring, physical therapy, and Medicare Conditions of Participation. She has performed Compliance Risk Assessments and participated in IRO reviews.
