PacifiCorp and Ameren power stations recognized as top performers
WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 10, 2017 – Today, Navigant announces the recipients of the Generation Knowledge Service (GKS) Plant Operational Excellence Awards. The awards recognize coal-fired and combined cycle power plants that have demonstrated excellence in cost and operational management, as well as improved performance and reliability.
Eligible coal plants were separated into three classes based on average unit sizes. The top and runner-up plants for each category are:
Small Coal – ≤ 500 MW Average Unit Size Range
Large Coal – > 500 MW Average Unit Size Range
“In this time of continual operational and cost pressures in the generation industry, I am amazed at the resourcefulness and ingenuity of the dedicated people operating these plants,” said Dale Probasco, managing director of global generation services at Navigant. “They continue to make them a viable and vital part of providing energy across the United States, and they truly represent the best in our industry.”
The GKS Plant Operational Excellence Awards are based on a review of cost and performance data over the most recent five-year period for coal fired plants (2012-2016) and the last four-year period for combined cycle plants (2013-2016). This detailed data comes from Navigant’s industry leading GKS database, which contains more than 220,000 MW of coal-fired generation and nearly 79,000 MW of combined cycle generation. The analysis of cost and performance includes a weighted comparison of non-fuel operation and maintenance costs during the evaluation period, as well as availability and reliability measures.
Winners were initially announced at Navigant’s annual GKS User’s Meeting held in Atlanta, June 6-8.
