EHRs, Consumer Self-Pay Among Executives’ RCM Priorities

A Navigant/HFMA survey of provider executives about revenue cycle IT budgets and trends

An annual HFMA/Navigant survey shows optimizing EHRs and addressing consumer self-pay remain key revenue cycle priorities for providers nationwide. According to the survey of hospital and health system CFOs and revenue cycle executives:

  • Providers are still struggling to optimize EHR functionality – 56% said EHR adoption challenges have been equal to or outweighed benefits specific to revenue cycle performance.
  • While providers appear better prepared to address consumer self-pay, 81% still believe the issue will continue to affect their organizations, compared to 92% last year.

Executives also project more moderate revenue cycle IT budget growth, with 68% saying their revenue cycle IT budgets will increase over the next year, down from 74% last year.
