Hospital trustees own responsibility for the performance of the organization’s leader. To be effective stewards in this new ear of healthcare, trustees must be up to speed in seven critical areas:

  1. Risk for Unnecessary Care
  2. Physician Partnership
  3. Health Plan Options
  4. Clinical Innovation
  5. Employer Activism
  6. Consumerism and Retail Health
  7. Alternative Capital

To retain a competent CEO, the board must understand and respond to these seven issues. And if they’re not being addressed regularly in the board’s meetings, it must ask its chairman "why?"
