Just prior to the end of the fourth quarter of 2016, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Foreign Corrupt Practices Unit announced settlements in cases for record sums, many of which reflect the desire for increased transparency that the DOJ has encouraged. 

Most cases during this quarter involved the typical improper payments facilitated by third-party intermediaries, along with a hiring practices case. The cases this quarter also reflect an uptick in the number of monitors imposed as part of the settlements. In this article, Navigant experts discuss how we should expect to see more global settlements as international cooperation continues to increase.
