Supporting McDonald’s in Setting a Science-Based Target

Navigant assists the global restaurant company in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and intensity

Ecofys, a Navigant company, recently supported McDonald’s in developing a corporate climate target, which was announced by McDonald’s in New York on March 20. The targets were approved by the Science Based Targets initiative.

The global restaurant company said it will commit to partnering with its franchisees to reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions related to McDonald’s restaurants and offices by 36% by 2030 from a 2015 base year. McDonald’s also committed to a 31% reduction in emissions intensity (per metric ton of food and packaging) across its supply chains by 2030 from 2015 levels.

The targets were presented by the McDonald’s executive team at a meeting involving the World Wildlife Fund at the World Economic Forum. Matthew Banks, associate director in Navigant’s Energy practice, was present as well.

Navigant believes McDonald’s commitment will inspire franchisees, suppliers, and others to follow its lead. Find more information at: mcdonaldsclimateaction.com.
