In an article for Utility Dive, Navigant Research looks at how Australia and Japan are becoming hotspots for commercial and industrial demand response
As the North American demand response market emerges from an uneventful winter, markets like Australia and Japan are seeing an uptick in commercial and industrial (C&I) efforts.
In an article for Utility Dive, Brett Feldman, principal research analyst at Navigant Research, explained that in Australia, record heat and record energy prices are pushing initiatives forward to support reliability during extreme weather events and unplanned outages. A variety of pilot projects are now underway, leveraging partnerships between government, industry, and other market players, to work toward a solution.
In Japan, Feldman said that demand response activity has also ramped up. While the country has dabbled with the technology for several years, primarily after a 2011 tsunami wiped out much of its nuclear capacity, efforts are being renewed as competitive retail power markets emerge.
