Ecofys, a Navigant company, facilitates an exchange of experience on power sector structures, grid operation, and market actor cooperation
Ecofys, a Navigant company, provides advice and support to the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in its energy dialogue with the Gulf countries, including through its Energy Partnership with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The bilateral Emirati-German Energy Partnership’s second High-Level Steering Group Meeting and an expert workshop on power sector optimization were held in Abu Dhabi on January 15-16. Over 110 participants attended the expert workshop, focusing on an exchange of experience regarding power sector structures, grid operation, and cooperation between market actors. Transmission system operator (TSO) and utility representatives and public-sector officials from both countries shared insights into power sector optimization against the background of the UAE’s Project Synergy on restructuring the Emirati power sector.
During the High-Level Steering Group Meeting, H.E. Rainer Baake, state secretary of BMWi, and H.E. Dr. Matar Al Neyadi, undersecretary at the Ministry of Energy of the UAE, reaffirmed both countries’ strong interest in continuing an exchange. Integrating variable renewables, energy efficiency, electricity markets, and power systems were identified as priority areas in which activities will take place over the course of 2018.
Ecofys, a Navigant company, has been supporting BMWi in its energy dialogue with the Gulf countries since fall 2016 through its experience in supporting international energy cooperation and knowledge of the region’s energy sector.
