Navigant outlines five steps for success in physical security in American Public Power Association's blog

While physical attacks on utilities are rare, the potential for damage is high, according to Navigant’s Brian Harrell, a director specializing in security and risk management. In a blog for the American Public Power Association, Harrell recently shared five steps electric utilities can take to protect themselves from this type of damage.

The steps include:

“Public power utilities take their obligations seriously and want to secure critical assets, safeguard employees, and maintain system reliability,” Harrell says.



Security response and recovery are high priorities for public power utilities. While coordinated physical attacks on utilities are rare, an attack by a disgruntled former employee, ideologically motivated activist, or a criminal stumbling across a 'soft target' could inflict significant damage.
