Navigant shares insight with U.S. News & World Report
Clean energy is helping to grow the utility sector, according to a recent U.S. News & World Report article.
As governments institute regulations around fossil fuel use, renewables, like wind and solar, have allowed utilities to branch out from just providing generation to offering clients a portfolio of energy services.
Rob Wilhite, managing director at Navigant, explained that utilities can now provide offerings such as energy storage and management directly to their customers.
"They're finding growth outside of the regulated jurisdictions," Wilhite says.
Utilities are also becoming interested in renewables because of their potential to create more predictable returns over fossil fuels with lower margins, according to the article.
Wilhite added that utility-scale solar and wind systems in particular are gaining traction because of their cost efficiencies.
