Navigant’s James Rose publishes a report sponsored by Institute of Internal Auditors Research Foundation on how to internal auditors can be more effective at their jobs.

According to Rose, "At its core, the excellence of every internal audit function and the profession as a whole is dependent upon the knowledge, skills, activities, and behaviors of internal audit practitioners. Given the impact that human capital has on organizational success, assessment of competency development is essential to both the profession’s credibility and the success of the individual practitioner."

Rose describes the competencies that are most important for success and what you can do to propel your career:

  • Compare your assessment to other practitioners
  • Assess your strengths and weaknesses in those skills
  • Choose the skills that you want to improve
  • Create a plan for investing in yourself
