Navigant Managing Hospital Expansion and Renovation Project

Trinity Regional Health System - Rock Island Campus

Navigant is serving as the project manager and developing the business plan for the expansion and renovation of the Heart Center and Emergency Departments for Trinity Rock Island. The project includes more than 100,000 square feet of new construction, and about 20,000 square feet of renovation, and is designed to ensure that the campus will be able to accommodate the community’s needs now and into the future.

Trinity Regional Health System is part of the Iowa Health System and is made up of four-campuses located on the western border of Illinois and the eastern border of Iowa. With a history dating back to the late 1800s, Trinity’s campuses include Trinity Rock Island and Trinity Moline in Illinois; and Trinity Bettendorf and Trinity Muscatine in Iowa.

Trinity Rock Island is the most robust campus, with the largest in-patient capacity of 338 beds. A Level II Trauma Center, Trinity Rock Island also provides the foundation for heart and mental health services. Trinity Rock Island’s aging infrastructure continues to foster operational, business, technology, and regulatory challenges. Originally built in 1972, the building has never undergone major structural or infrastructure upgrades. It is difficult to meet today’s technology requirements and comply with the current regulatory environment.

Navigant is serving as Program/Project Manager. The Heart Center / Emergency Department Project is currently in the design phase and is scheduled to open Q3, 2014. The Heart Center will include 4 Cath Labs, CTU, NIDT and Cardiac Rehab; the Emergency Department will include a Psychiatric ED as well as an Twelve Bed Observation Unit.

The project will create an expanded heart center (one additional cath lab and co-location of all cardiac treatment modalities) and an expanded ED (with in-suite CT and radiology, an observation unit, and a psychiatric ED). It will also provide the electrical and engineering infrastructure required to support these improvements.

In all, the project consists of roughly 107,000 building square feet of new construction, and about 20,000 square feet of renovation is being planned and designed with flexibility and adaptability in mind to ensure that the campus will be able to accommodate the community’s needs now and into the future.
