As a self-professed “science nerd,” Brian Coffey’s position at Navigant is a perfect fit. Brian is a managing consultant in the Energy practice in Navigant’s Washington, D.C. office, where he explores how different energy-consuming products can be made more efficient.

Navigant provides me both with opportunities to think creatively and the autonomy to implement my ideas.

Brian regularly travels to product manufacturers to dissect their products and analyze how to make each element more energy efficient. Recently, he worked on a project that determined how much cost savings a power utility could save over the life of a distribution transformer. Brian also conducts regular market research to understand the industry of each client and his work informs policy and standards passed by the United States Department of Energy.

Brian appreciates the wealth of professional development opportunities Navigant provides and has participated in several offsite trainings. His favorite course was focused on improving presentation skills where he spent time with colleagues from a variety of levels and office locations to enhance his public speaking abilities. Equipped with refined presentation skills, Brian was selected to moderate a quarterly all-employee call, providing him exposure to the firm and to Navigant’s senior leadership.

Brian is active in several Navigant-sponsored extracurricular activities, including the American Heart Association "Lawyers Have a Heart" road race where he participates every year with Navigant colleagues; the National Serve-A-Thon, a community service day; and recently helped improve a home for orphaned children by spackling and painting walls. Brian also participates in an annual chili cook-off organized by his practice and has even won first place for his culinary creations.
