International Wind Energy Development: Supply Chain Report 2012 – 2015

Click here to order online using a credit card.

The 200+ page report examines the effects of capacity investments made by wind turbine manufacturers to meet supply shortages over the past four years, resulting in rapidly scaled up megawatt output and geographic reach of manufacturing. However, the drop in demand brought on by the global financial crisis means that component supply capacity has reached a level where suppliers compete to provide components and key materials to turbine makers. The report also highlights new trends, including the entrance and growing interest of the Direct-Drive WTG concept, which may have an impact on future supply patterns.

Highlights

• Assessment of supply and demand for all major components, including blades, gearboxes, generators, bearings, power converters, transformers, towers, and pitch systems

• Supply chain update for key materials, including castings, forgings, reinforcement fibers, resins and rare-earth metals

• The effect of the overwhelming capacity in China's supply chain and the resulting supply chain consolidations

• Outline of the challenges faced by the rapidly-expanding offshore segment

• Descriptions of fierce competition caused by overcapacity within many key areas

• Overview of the latest supply chain strategies from the world's Top-10 turbine OEMs in response to slumping demand

The Supply Chain Assessment 2012–2015 reviews more than 300 suppliers of eight key components and more than 130 suppliers of four key material groups.
