Dr. Mark Wenneker, a Director in the Healthcare practice, provides physician leadership development and clinical process improvement consulting for medical staffs, hospitals, health plans, and managed care organizations. He specializes in quality measurement, management, and improvement, with a focus on the role of physicians as leaders in the healthcare system.
Dr. Wenneker has been at the forefront of national efforts to develop quality improvement initiatives for managed care and other healthcare organizations. As a surveyor and faculty instructor for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), he developed curricula for educational conferences. He founded the journal of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), Eye on Improvement, and served as its Deputy Editor, and also was a member of IHI's Web strategy team and national forum committee. Dr. Wenneker was Director of the Program for Clinical Quality, and Medical Director of the Department of Healthcare Quality at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA. He has been Medical Director for Community Medical Alliance, also in Boston, and for Cigna HealthCare of Massachusetts.
Dr. Wenneker practiced general internal medicine for seventeen years prior to becoming a full-time consultant serving as staff internist at Boston's Community Medical Group and an associate physician at Boston Medical Center. He was also a research scientist at The Health Institute.He began to make the transition to medical and quality management after five years as a general internist and health services researcher, and received his MPH in 1989.
