Mr. Rathbone is a director in Navigant’s energy practice and is based in the firm’s London office. He is a highly experienced consultant and corporate finance adviser with a wide range of skills in the energy, infrastructure and utilities fields. He has had a twenty-seven year career in consulting and advisory roles, including seven years as a partner with Arthur Andersen.

Mr. Rathbone’s business experience includes advising on strategy, privatisation, valuation and transaction support. His past projects have covered all parts of the energy value chain, from upstream oil and gas through refining and petrochemicals and power generation to transmission, distribution and marketing. His clients have included Governments and State-owned entities in both developed and developing economies, large and small corporations, private equity firms and sovereign wealth funds.

Recently, Mr. Rathbone has been advising the Government of a Middle Eastern country on a number of matters in their energy sector, ranging from restructuring of the downstream petroleum sector, future options for a local refinery and royalty and tax policy for exploitation of oil shale reserves in both retorting and power generation.

Mr. Rathbone has a particular specialism in corporate finance and valuation. He has lead the development of sophisticated models for use either in valuations or for finance raising, and has significant experience in preparing and presenting finance and valuation cases to financial institutions. As an example he acted as finance director for an MBI company making a bid for a UK water and waste-water company, playing a key role in raising finance for over £1 billion in equity and debt facilities.

He is a chartered accountant and is also fluent in German.
