Supply Chain
Today’s healthcare providers face a myriad of operational challenges that can adversely impact the bottom line, including ever-tightening reimbursement guidelines, a growing uninsured population, escalating operational costs, new technologies and procedures, direct-to-consumer marketing, and defensive medicine practices.
In response to these market challenges, many providers are rethinking how they look at the supply chain, and how they can build or enhance their internal supply chain capabilities. Advanced supply chain operations can positively influence clinical outcomes, physician satisfaction, patient satisfaction and financial performance. Achieving these types of outcomes however, requires that the provider take control of its supply chain strategy from the traditional supply chain partners and proactively manage the process moving forward.

CASE STUDY:
Margin Improvement in Children's Hospital
A children’s hospital which is a part of a large academic medical facility engaged the Navigant Supply Chain Management team with a goal of $15M in savings. Navigant targeted all non-labor expenditures for Med-Surg, Purchased Services, Pharmacy, Lab, Surgery, Cath Lab, Electrophysiology (EP), Radiology and non-clinical departments. Using Navigant’s proven methodology; the Navigant team lowered the hospital’s inventory level by greater than $1M and worked with physicians, nursing staff, materials management and administration to develop strategies, goals and a Value Analysis process. The Navigant Supply Chain Management team was able to identify the hospital’s cost reduction and improve the overall margin, exceeding the $15M goal and implemented $18M in overall savings for the hospital.
